Child Sponsorship
Child Sponsorship was the first component of PRIMACH...
It all started when Mrs. Mfula began talking to some boys selling apples and mangoes on the streets of Choma, a small town in the south of Zambia, one of the world's poorest countries. The children she met would sell during the day, earning barely enough to eat, and sleep at the market at night, where they were constantly exposed to danger as opposed to the loving family environment which every child needs to grow.
There are those who have kids sell for them on the streets, which is child abuse. Children have a right to stay with their parents, and to go to school. They have a right to their childhood.
When they saw boys hunting in bins for food the Mfulas decided to do something to allevaite the suffering of these children in their own community who had otherwise been abandonned by the society in which they live.
"These are kids younger than 16 years who have to take up the responsibility of the parent. They are being denied their childhood."
Primach is dedicated to rehabilitating children in families, finding places for them in school and sponsoring their education until Grade 12.

Support Groups
HIV/AIDS Support Groups...
The majority of these children found themselves living on the streets because their parents were unable to take care of them, often because they were suffering from HIV/AIDS, or because they had died of this disease.
We are keen to see parents take responsibility for their children and this has led us to start a support group in Mwapona and Kabanana compounds for those living with HIV/AIDS.
These groups consist of people who are keen to encourage one another and learn how to live positive lives, despite the virus that they suffer. They are very open people and are passionate about eradicating the stigma which is still attached to HIV/AIDS by educating the community and encouraging others to be open about their status.
This group has started an adult literacy program and holds weekly classes to sensitize the community in which they live and to teach others about the disease and how to live with it.
With the correct resources, they would start garden and poultry projects to generate income and supplement their diets, which will result in better resilience to illness and greater capacity to cope with the strong medication. The proceeds will help each group member meet the daily needs for their families.

House building
Spending so much time visiting in the compounds makes it easy to identify a person who has need for help with shelter.
The heavy rains from January to March often cause a lot of damage to houses.
Also, when someone is hungry then it is hard to think of repairing the house.
Through some generous donations by supporters Primach has been able to build houses from the ground, and also worked to re-roof houses.

Empowerment through Micro-finance
This is all about seeing empowering parents to take up the role of breadwinner and thereby eventually take over the sponsorship of their own children.
We give small loans to those wishing to start businesses. For example, someone can buy and sell vegetables in the market, and should make enough to pay back the money. Their self esteem levels are raised, they are empowered economically and socially as individuals, thereby empowering the community as a whole.
